Useless, useless

Silicon Valley continues to come up with new and innovative technologies that don't work.

Take AI, for instance -- since you'll soon have no choice but to take it. Every tech company is jamming AI into its products at a rapid pace, from spreadsheets to word processors, internet search to photo editing. Google's latest tweak to its search results got a lot of negative press when it started suggesting that people start eating rocks and putting glue on pizza. It takes a massive amount of energy to come up with answers these dumb, folks!

Then there are the new AI devices, which may point the way to the future, but for the moment are pricey digital paperweights. Top gadget reviewer Marques Brownlee called one "barely reviewable" and another "the worst product I've ever reviewed."

Which is too bad, 'cos it looks totally Star Trek

Rather than dwell on this sad and maddening state of affairs, let's turn to a clever fellow who is making useless gadgets on purpose.

Matty Benedetto is the man behind Unnecessary Inventions, and regularly goes viral with "new inventions that solve problems that don't exist." These include the Candy Catapult Case, the Relationship Roulette Machine (which swipes randomly on Tinder for you), and something called Zoom-Jamas. His videos are bright snappy fun and full of oddball creativity. Also, Benedetto has never urged his audience to drink urine.
