We Will (Not) Be Blocked

Where is the most important library in the world? One could argue that it's everywhere and nowhere, that it has no physical existence, that it's a chimera made of pixels. One could argue that it's the Uncensored Library, which can be found all over the Earth -- within the game of Minecraft.

A video game in which players can use virtual building blocks to create infinite worlds, Minecraft is a world unto itself, populated by more than 100,000,000 users. It is popular around the globe. Its users are can approach Minecraft in any way they like: as a sandbox, an adventure game, an educational tool, and so on. Freedom is the name of the game in Minecraft.

Thus it has much in common with Reporters Without Borders, an international organization dedicated to "the freedom to be informed and to inform others." RWB works to support journalists and other citizens who find themselves censored in their home countries. To this end it paired with a design company called BlockWorks to create the Uncensored Library within the borderless realm of Minecraft.

Writers and reporters who have seen their work suppressed are able to see it published in "book" form within the Uncensored Library, which is virtually infinite and free for anyone to explore...at least until repressive regimes start blocking Minecraft. But to hell with you, tyrants! People will always build new ways to share the truth, even if they have to use imaginary bricks to do it.
