We Gotta Put This Rat on BROADWAY!!!

A couple months back, this blog mentioned that a bunch of talented people on TikTok had begun amusing themselves by creating songs/sets/dances/et al for something called Ratatouille: The Musical. A whole lot of strangers poured their creativity into making a Pixar movie -- about a rat who longs to be a chef -- into a tuneful Broadway-style extravaganza.

Because why not.

In an even odder twist, Broadway embraced Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical in a big way. A production company emerged willing to "stage" the show online. Disney/Pixar gave the project its blessing. Big names like Titus Burress, Wayne Brady, and Adam Lambert joined the cast. Virtual tickets for the whole shebang were sold by Broadway vendor TodayTix, with funds (more than $1 million) going to benefit the Actors Fund. And this unconventional show, assembled from the efforts of many isolated individuals, got a positive review from the L.A. Times theater critic

It's all about as unlikely and delightful as, well, the idea of a rat becoming a chef.
